Optima Specimen Book

Typography & Editorial Design

Overview

Optima is a humanist typeface that blends the clarity of a sans-serif with the elegance of classical Roman serif forms.

Drawing from Roman monumental capitals, its subtle curves and sharp lines evoke the structure and grace of ancient inscriptions.

This specimen book explores Optima’s historical and typographic significance through a research-driven, editorial approach. Paired with excerpts from About Alphabets, the book highlights the typeface’s refined geometry and cultural roots, creating a visual narrative that bridges type design and Roman heritage.

My Role

I researched, wrote, and designed the full specimen book. This project demonstrates my ability to analyze and communicate type design through thoughtful curation, layout, and visual storytelling.
